3 Hongkongers arrested at Bangkok Airport with HK$10 million of cocaine
Three young Hongkongers were arrested on Monday at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on suspicion of carrying 12.3kg of cocaine worth more than HK$10 million into Thailand from Brazil, after Hong Kong police tipped off local authorities.
The suspects were identified as Fong Yee-ting, 19, Tung Wing-yan, 22, and Yau Kit-long, 24, according to Bangkok Post. Thai authorities believed the drug was bound for Hong Kong.
A Hong Kong police source said the force and Thai police were searching for a Hong Kong woman who paid the three suspects HK$8,000 each to deliver the drugs from Brazil to Thailand.
“Upon questioning the three suspects, [we found that] they were hired by a Hong Kong woman, known only as ‘Ming’,” secretary-general Sirinya Sitdhichai of Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board said.
“They were hired for HK$8,000 each, or about US$1000, to carry the drug from Brazil to Thailand.”
The suspects told investigators that they intended to deliver the drug to Ming at a hotel in the Sukhumvit area, he said.
