Eleven vehicles were damaged after being hit by a runaway bus which had lost braking power and speed down the Pinklao bridge on Sunday.

The KM Rungruang Transport Co bus ran off the bridge and hit vehicles waiting at the traffic light at Khok Wua intersection on Ratchadamnoen Avenue near Democracy Monument at 4.50pm, Jor Sor 100 traffic radio reported.

Pol Lt Col Worawut Chaisomboon, the traffic police chief of Chana Songkhram police station, confirmed the crash, which he said damaged eight vehicles and three motorcycles.

The brake system of the bus malfunctioned, leading to the accident, he added.

The name of the driver has not been disclosed.

Poh Teck Tung Foundation said about five persons were injured and sent to hospital.
