A 56-year-old woman with dementia is believed to have been strangled to death at home before her husband killed himself in a suspected murder-suicide on Wednesday morning, police sources have said.
The incident came to light shortly after 7.30am when Au Kin-ming, 58, fell to his death from King Ying House at King Shan Court on Fung Shing Street in Diamond Hill.
One source with the knowledge of the case said Au killed himself after sending a text message to his elder brother saying he wanted to commit suicide.
A police spokeswoman said a security guard found Au lying unconscious in a flower bed outside the building and called the police. “The man was declared dead at the scene,” she said.
Police found the body of his wife, Fung Shuk-ying, 56, in bed inside the couple’s unlocked flat on the 15th floor of the same building.
“Suspected strangulation marks were found on her neck,” another source said.
The source said a suicide note was found in the home saying her illness could not be cured and used the word “hopeless”.
“Officers are investigating whether the man strangled her before he killed himself,” the source said.
The flat was cordoned off as police and pathologists carried out an investigation.
Officers from the Wong Tai Sin district crime squad are investigating.
