Street robbers nabbed by policeman in women’s clothes

NONTHABURI – Two teenagers wanted for the armed robbery of several women have been caught after being spotted by a policeman posing as a woman.

The two male suspects, age 17 and 18, were arrested on Wednesday night while they were travelling on a motorcycle on Rattanathibet Road in Muang district, allegedly looking for a new victim.

Pol Col Nathapol Kukarasorn, deputy chief of Nonthaburi police, said Pol Sr Sgt Maj Wiwek Kamolwiboon, of Rattanathibet police station, was assigned to dress like a woman and patrol along Rattanathibet Road,  where several women have been attacked by armed robbers.

Early on Wednesday night, Pol Sr Sgt Maj Wiwek spotted two teenagers passing by on a motorcycle and acting suspiciously.  He signalled other police to intercept the two for a search.

The two were caught with a knife, a box cutter and a number of articles believed to have been taken from their victims. The motorcycle was  also seized.

They allegedly confessed to having staged a number of robberies along Rattanathibet Road, including one at 4am on Dec 8 at the mouth of Soi Rattanathibet 18 in tambon Bang Kraso when they stole a digital camera and 16 baht cash from a woman.

The previous night they allegedly robbed a woman in front of a bus stop near Every shopping mall, stabbing her in the arm and body with a knife before taking her notebook computer.
